The term "socialism" refers to absence of private ownership on the means of production. It may or may not be a feature of a democratic society, alas, historically, the more socialist societies have been, the LESS democratic they have been. https://twitter.com/ProudSocialist/status/1318067107939053568
A lot of Americans seem to be very confused about what socialism is or what it means. They seem to actually think European countries are socialist. Complete nonsense. They use what we call a "social market economy".
This is merely a structured way of giving social safety to people's lives, by way of maternity and parental leave (not the same thing), unemployment insurance, health insurance, living support, and so on. Personally I think it's a good idea and maybe America should try it.
Let me add, in case you've forgotten, that "Nazi" stands for "national socialist", so maybe you should reconsider your enthusiasm for declaring yourself a socialist.
In a final twist of irony, the reason most Germans know what "socialism" and "democracy" means is that past WW2 the Americans insisted German school education emphasizes this lesson. Kudos to America đź’—đź’— but maybe they should have done the same in their own country.
