A lot of people still don't grasp the enormity of the Covid19 threat. Why we have no choice but to take drastic measures.

One person tweeted this rates nowhere close to other crises.

FALSE.

If unleashed this virus would kill more Canadians than WWI and WWII did.

It's a very complicated and problematic comparison, but it gives you a sense in terms of scale.

You can measure it different ways.

But right now, Covid19 kills 5% of reported Canadian cases (crude mortality rate).

WW1 Canadian dead (our deadliest war): 0.08% of Canadians.

And consider this: Canada's dead in WWI happened over a space of time 1914-1918.

This virus with no controls would kill more Canadians than WWI in a far shorter, rapid space of time.

Somehow we would have to deal with several WWIs crushing hospitals happening over maybe 12 mo's

We don't know how many Canadians have been infected with Covid19.

We can only guess.

So our death rate has to be lower than 5%.

But even still.

This virus would probably be worse than WWI.

So, when people imply we should let the virus run its course.

Ask them why they're okay with killing so many Canadians, more than World War One?

Esp when we know how to prevent it?

What's so impt that tens of thousands or 100s of thousands of Canadians must die for it?
