i haven& #39;t played through ffl3 in years so i can& #39;t comment on it as a whole but messing around today i& #39;m liking the vibe of its very, very small world. it& #39;s packed with all the weirdness of a whole rpg world but condensed to a 64x64 area
i was finding it a little dull until i got inspired to make that meme and i quickly realized there was actually lots of interesting stuff going on. then again i loved the game as a kid, mostly out of familiarity, so i& #39;m inclined to treat it more generously
just gonna post cool stuff about the game until i figure out what i& #39;m feeling. the existential threat is visible on the world map from the very beginning, floating ominously in the sky, with possible no interaction but to watch it endlessly pump water into the overfull ocean
u can& #39;t escape it in space because the world& #39;s so small, and even when the water entity itself is offscreen, you can always see the sea and its unnatural coastline. you can& #39;t escape it in time because it was already there in the past, and unthwarted it remains there in the future
there& #39;s something about returning to the present after your first visit to the past and seeing a huge bay where the town of lae used to be......but it& #39;s not erased from history because the sea hag disease or whatever spread to muu, and it& #39;s waaay worse there
separate cool thing but i like that the reward for the first dungeon is getting the ability to fly anywhere on the map. that& #39;s a cool thing you can do with a small world map.......but still feels less momentous than an & #39;airship& #39; bc it& #39;s slow-moving and there are still encounters
