Some thoughts on the latest controversy.
“Islamic jurisprudence doesn’t allow an individual taking the matters into his own hands. The law of the land has to be respected. No individual can punish, kill, hurt or take revenge on another person because he feels angry about a certain issue.”
The far right might not be in power but their discourse on Islam and Muslims is the dominant one. Macron’s France is the best example how extremist ideas on Islam is mainstreamed. This insanity has to be stopped. The real threat is not a bunch of alienated angry Muslim youth.
There is a war of narrative. The use of “Islamist terrorism” by Macron & co doesn’t help. It is a deliberate attempt to legitimise the tiny fringe faction of those who conduct violence in the name of Islam. We have to reject the use of Islam in this context without ifs and buts.
I don’t explain myself to anyone. I have no obligation to condemn every incident where a Muslim is involved. Muslims don’t hold collective responsibility of what a person or a minority does. That is the end of the discussion as far as I am concerned.
