Had brunch today with a good friend of mine who is Jewish. We decided to have an honest convo about things that were on our mind....topics that could be seen as “controversial.” 1/
She had genuine questions about about BLM & the Black experience in the U.S, but didn’t want to be labeled racist. I had genuine questions about BDS, Israel <> Palestine relations etc but didn’t want to be labeled anti-Semitic. 2/
And after having a deeper convo from both perspectives, we were able to share the nuances of our communities that allowed us to better understand each other, and double down on our support for one another. đź’• 3/
This convo made me realize that traditional social media really sucks. It’s nearly impossible to have conversations about difficult topics here—and with cancel culture being so pervasive, people just aren’t willing to take the risk of “asking to learn.” 4/
