I’d like to tell you a small story of personal redemption in the wake of my impending business closure 10/31.
One employee, a man named Quincy, has worked for me for 7 years.
Quincy has always been dependable, an excellent cleaner, often covering for other ees who were flaky.

Over the years I’ve depended on him. He’s bailed me out of so many tough spots, I’ve often wondered to myself, “is Quincy an angel?”. He’s not, just a good man.
His pay & responsibilities have grown each year, & as I laid off ees due to corona, he’s been integral to operations.

A few of my clients know him by name & face, a thing I rarely allowed to occur in my operation.
So in light of my soon closure, I contacted a few clients, asking them if Quincy were to hang a shingle, could he continue servicing their accounts. Two have said yes. Another pending.

I arranged this possibility, before speaking w Quincy, knowing that if he opted not to, clients would still have time to take bids for service.
In the accounts Quincy will take over, I am leaving him the equipment for free. Each account has approx $500-$1000 of vacs & trash cans.

I asked Q, who worked evenings for me as a 2nd job, why he had continued banging away for so many years. He replied that his wife & him are saving for a down, for their first house. Quincy is 40 years old.
So now W’s income is set to triple, possibly quadruple. Sky’s the limit!

I’ve put Q in touch with my insurance broker, & I’m helping him publish his fictitious business name. I’m leaving him with my proposal format & some marketing materials. He will work alone at first, and will leave his daytime job to start his new business.
It all makes me laugh!
It all makes me laugh!
I also wanna cry.
The day I hired Q, we worked together for 8 hours, spring cleaning a new account I’d hired him for. We talked all day, laughing together, banging loud tunes from NWA & other r&b hiphop favs. Q’s choice.
I won’t ever call Q an employee ever again.
He’s a friend!

Q was never just an ee. He was an “armor bearer”. He treated my business as his own, and I grew to trust him. He helped me fight my battles, and he never once asked for a raise. He never once betrayed any personal ambition. He just served my interests, as if the were his own.
Q will become a business owner, on the eve of buying his 1st home! W no initial investments! Only having to secure liability insurance for himself, & then later, when he hires people, he’ll need the evil worker’s comp.
Quincy was a prince among men. Now he’s king!
Be like Quincy.
