1/5. To the journos at yesterday’s @DanielAndrewsMP presser who don’t seem to understand why VIC isn’t in the trans-Tasman bubble. Here’s a simple explanation.

Yes, we know NZers are coming from a low-virus place so are of little virus threat to Victorians. But guess what?

2/5. Being a virus threat isn’t all that matters to VICs & our govt. There are 2 other issues:

1. NZers aren’t aware of VICs #COVID19 rules so are more likely to break them. Our govt. now has to waste resources they could have used fighting virus to track & educate these ppl.

2. Our govt. said they didn’t want NZers swanning into VIC while VICs themselves can’t move freely. This isn’t about physical health, but MENTAL HEALTH. It’s bad enough being locked down, but being so while those from other countries are allowed in would be unfair/awful.

4/5. For journos to argue about this at the presser was indefensible. Andrews is not only trying to keep people safe, but to operate FAIRLY.

Yep, we know he fucked up with the towers but perhaps has now learned that psychological issues matter so much in this, too.

5/5. In any case, VIC was ASKED not to shut borders by @ScottMorrisonMP, and unlike other states COMPLIED WITH THE REQUEST.

Now, our state suffers the consequences of not only scrambling to fix the issue, but of BEING BLAMED FOR IT by @AlanTudgeMP.

It’s unconscionable.
