This is related to what Benjamin Riley and I wrote about learning styles and neuromyths. With rare exceptions, everybody wants to be on the side of science and research. For this reason the most valuable thing to do isn't to report on scientific consensus or the importance of listening to science -- others already agree it's important, and they think you're reporting just one side of the story. Instead, you have to educate the public on science.
Some of the above claims proved to be a bit controversial! I'll try to reengage with research on scientific communication and post about it. Stay tuned.
