Alright. I dug out the tub of Jumps. About 25 issues I’ve accumulated between 1998-2013 (mostly in the first few years of the 00’s)

This thread will prob just document the basics of each issue (year, #, featured series), then if anyone wants me to dig deeper we’ll go from there

Just as a little background... most of these were brought back when my dad would take business trips to Japan. There’s a 4 issue run I have from when I lived in Japan for about a month as a short student exchange, and then maybe one or two issues I picked up elsewhere

So, totally purchased arbitrarily depending on what was on newsstands at the time. That said, I ended up with a few really interesting issues. Some of these I haven’t really looked at in a decade+ so I’m curious to see what I’ve got!

1998 No. 6

A kinda unique issue. It’s a group cover and ONE PIECE gets lead color pages, including color comic pages which is a rarity for the series! It’s an extra long chapter too, the Gaimon chapter

It has this cool fold-out with ONE PIECE character profiles as well as some ads that certainly date it

Several series gave color pages in this issue — HANASAKU TENSHI TENTEN-KUN, I”S, and SEKIMATSU LEADER-DEN TAKESHI!

Not a color page but I think it’s really cool that there’s a chapter of COWA! in here. iirc it took me a long time before I realized that it was Toriyama

And finally, a couple of what I’m pretty sure are just one shots ALSO get color pages. So many color pages!!

Cover / Lead Color - Kinda legendary ONE PIECE cover with teases for future characters. Chapter with another color comic page and the TV anime announcement

Center Color - coincidentally more CHILDRAGON

This issue also has a NEKO MAJIN short

I kinda knew ONE PIECE from the previous issues, but being in Japan at this time it became very clear to me that it was Hot Stuff Here’s a big ad block in the issue. There was already merch *EVERYWHERE*

Cover - NARUTO (more silver metallic on some of the text)

Center Color - BOBOBO-BO BO-BOBO (...character poll?? )

Cover / Lead Color - BOBOBO-BO BO-BOBO (with huge fold-out feature. Man, BO-BOBO rules)

Center Color - RISING IMPACT (very uncharacteristic art for this series. There’s an example of what RISING IMPACT looks like previously in this thread)
