Election day is rapidly approaching. How should Christians cast their votes? Should Christians even vote? The answer to the latter question is absolutely. The answer to the former needs some unpacking.
Why should Christians vote? For generations, men and women have risked and given their lives for our freedom from the Revolutionary War, the American civil war, to world wars and more recent conflicts with the global war on terrorism.
Americans enjoy the blessings of a constitutional republic, and, though we have flaws, our country has provided freedom and advanced liberty for millions of people around the world for generations.
What should Christians think about before going into the voting booth? We should think about voting in the context of our mission to fulfill the Great Commission (go into all the world, proclaim the gospel, and make disciples of King Jesus).
Jesus commanded his followers to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16).
There's a preservative function with salt, and Christians have a responsibility to defend and protect the Judeo-Christian values that has made America the beacon of hope and freedom around the world for hundreds of years.
It is incumbent on every Christian to view politics thru the lens of God's Word. We need to think about our culture and political landscape biblically and understand that we are to be good stewards of the liberty God has given us and vote intelligently.
This responsibility entails the idea that we should educate ourselves and vote in a way that honors God.
One of the best resources to dive into the issues and understand them from a Christian worldview is My Faith Votes ( https://www.myfaithvotes.org/ ). It's really a great one stop shop for Christians to engage in the political process with wisdom.
Please take time to study the issues and become an informed citizen. God expects this of His followers and future generations of Americans depend on our good judgment. When you view the resources, pay close attention to examine party platforms.
When candidates run for political office, they commit to advance their political party's agenda or platform. You need to understand that when you vote for a candidate, you're really voting to advance a platform as well. Which platform honors God?
If one dishonors God, then you should not vote for candidates representing that platform.

I'll leave you with some parting wisdom from the great Christian thinker, theologian and pastor, R.C. Sproul. ( https://www.ligonier.org/blog/principles-for-voting/)
I know that abortion is not the number one issue in this campaign because it has become acceptable. Just like slavery became acceptable. But it cannot be acceptable to ethical people. The people of God have to rise up and say ‘NO’!
We are not asking the state to be the church but we must say to the state, “Please be the state. God ordained you to protect, maintain, and preserve the sanctity of life, and you are not doing it.” So that has to be on your mind when you walk into that voting booth.
The first liberty mankind ever received occurred when God breathed into man the breath of life. Defending the sanctity and gift of life is essential to preserving all other freedoms we enjoy.
