SCREAM 3 [2000] 🎬 [Thread]
Scream 3 [Theatrical Trailer]
Scream 3 Official Poster 🔪🩸
Kevin Williamson wasn’t to return to writing duties, but he did write an outline for the film. Ehren Kruger, who wrote the script all but ignored the outline, & his script was written mostly on the fly, with pages usually completed the day they were to be filmed. 😬
Scott Foley's feature film debut.
Wes Craven was briefly considered for the role of John Milton.
The film's original website was a spoof website for Sunrise Studios, the fictional company making "Stab 3", complete with a production list of upcoming films and cast bios of its "Stab 3" stars.

You can check out the site down below! 🔪

This is the only Scream film where an opening scene victim is a returning character.
Cotton's TV show "100% Cotton" was actually a joke from the cast members of Scream 2 so they stuck with this in Scream 3. 🔪🩸
Liev Schreiber insisted that Cotton Weary should remove his jacket in the opening sequence. Schreiber had been working out a lot at the time and wanted to show off his physique. 🔪
Scream 3 [Opening Kill/ Cotton’s Death] 🔪🩸😱
Cotton's death scene was constantly changing & about three versions of it were filmed. This meant that the opening driving scene also had to be re-shot to account for the continuity changes.

Liev came up with the idea of having his character be killed off in the opening scene.🔪
David Arquette's brother Richmond has a small role in the film as a student who asks Gale a question near the start of the film.

Fun fact: The classroom where the seminar takes place was also used in Scream 2, to represent a room at Windsor College. 🔪
Dewey has a sit down conversation with Gale about a new Ghostface killer looking for Sidney. The conversation is reminiscent of his sit down discussions about the new Ghostface killer with Sidney and Randy in Scream 2. 🔪
The green outfit worn by Parker Posey while on-set is the same one worn by Courteney Cox in Scream. All sets for "Stab 3" were replicas of the originals, since the sets were destroyed after Scream wrapped.
🔪
The song "Red Right Hand" is played in the first three movies of the franchise. 🔪
Wes Craven can be seen dressed as a tourist walking behind Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes) outside the "Stab 3" set.

R.I.P Wes 🖤 We miss you every day! 🔪
Tyson Fox says that Cotton's murderer was "probably some ‘Stab’ fan pissed off they killed Randy in "Stab 2", which is a reference to Scream fans being upset that Randy was killed in Scream 2. Wes Craven got a bunch of hate mail on his website because Randy Meeks was killed. 🔪
Scream 3 [Sarah Darling Death Scene] 🔪

Throughout the movie, actors & actresses of "Stab 3", complain about re-writes and three different scripts.

The complaints actually originated with the real cast of this movie, because of frequent re-writes and three different endings.
🚨FUN FACT🚨

The police officer's last name is Kincaid. In Bride of Chucky (1998), the Police Chief, and Jade's foster father, was also named Kincade. 🔪
Patrick Dempsey was hired the day before shooting began. He had one night to learn three big dialogue-heavy scenes. 👀

He absolutely NAILED it if you asked me. 🔪
DID YOU KNOW? 👀

Neve Campbell was shooting Drowning Mona & Party of Five during the production of Scream 3. B/c her "Drowning Mona" character had long, streaked hair, Campbell had to wear a wig to play Sidney Prescott, which required two hours of application time each morning.
Neve Campbell's contract allowed her to be on the set for just 20 days, which is why Sidney has less screentime than in the other films. As a result of her role being reduced, more emphasis was put on the supporting characters. 🔪
The scene where Sidney's mother was clawing at the window, the actress' fake fingernails kept falling off. 🔪
The publicity stills of young Maureen Prescott, or "Rina Reynolds", are actually early modelling photos of a young Lynn McRee, the actress who portrayed the adult Maureen Prescott. 🔪🩸👀
One idea during development had Tori Spelling returning as herself portraying Sidney in "Stab 3".

At one point, the character of Joel played by Duane Martin was set to return as well.

(Now as to WHY Joel wasn’t brought back is BEYOND me. Everyone wanted him to come back) 😱🔪
Compared to its two predecessors, this film used the least amount of artificial blood. Its tally of ten gallons compares with fifty gallons for Scream (1996) and thirty for Scream 2 (1997). 🔪🩸
David Arquette suggested to wife Courtney Cox that she cut her hair like Bettie Page, thus giving rise to her infamous Scream 3 bangs.

However, @DavidArquette did take the blame for her hellish haircut! 🔪
Do you think it’s over, Sidney? [Clip] 🔪
Rewriting The Movie [Clip] 🔪

🚨FUN FACT🚨
The explosion of Jennifer's house was from a model of the house scaled at 1/4 of the size of the real house. The film crew had only one take to capture it.
Did you notice? 👀

When the power goes out at Jennifer's house, the fax machine still works. If you look to the left of the fax, there is a small unit with a green light. That is a UPS, which is like a big battery for computers and the like in case of power outages.
In Scream & Scream 2, Gale Weathers is punched in the face by Sidney Prescott.

In this movie, Jennifer Jolie, who is playing Gale Weathers in ‘Stab 3’, is punched in the face by the real Gale Weathers. 🤜🏻
Sidney Prescott Comes Out of Hiding [Clip] 🔪
Large amounts of footage were filmed due to the script constantly changing. Randy's video message (a three-minute scene) had over two hours of footage filmed for it.
The rules for a continued horror film sequel

1. The killer must be superhuman. Mere stabbing or shooting won’t be enough to kill the killer.
2. Anyone can die, including the main character.
3. The past will come back to haunt someone.

With trilogy’s, All bets are off!
Martha Meeks Appreciation Tweet
Jamie Kennedy, despite appearing in each of the first three films, has never appeared on any of the movie posters.
Another idea for Jamie Kennedy to reprise his character Randy Meeks was to have him survive the stabbing in Scream 2, his family having rescued him secretly. This was ultimately deemed to be too far-fetched, so Randy was resurrected via a post-mortem video appearance instead.
When Gale and Jennifer enter the basement and find Bianca, Bianca informs them, "you won't find anything on Maureen Prescott, but if you look under Rena Reynolds..." Carrie's real-life mother was Debbie Reynolds.
I Was Up For ‘Princess Leia’ [Clip] 🔪
Jamie Lee Curtis was offered the role of Bianca Burnette but turned it down.
🚨TRIGGER WARNING🚨

Milton admits to Gale that Maureen Prescott may have been raped at one of his parties. He was right since the killer is one of Maureen's own children and his own son as well, a child by rape.
Roman Bridger complains that he had to make a horror film before he was allowed to make a classic love story. Something similar happened to director Wes Craven himself. He had to agree to do this movie before he was allowed to make the musical drama Music of the Heart (1999). 🔪
The bathroom in which Sidney finds Angelina on the set of "Stab 3" is a replica of the one in which Sidney was attacked in Scream, as evidenced by the position of its doors and its soap dispenser design.
Sidney's attack on the Woodsboro set of "Stab 3" is similar to her first attack in Scream. As Sidney looks out of the window by the front door, the killer comes out of the coat closet and stabs the door, narrowly missing Sidney, and then chases her up the stairs. 🔪
Sidney Gets Attacked On Stab 3 Set [Clip] 🔪
There was a cut scene where we actually see the ghost sitting at his computer putting peoples voices into the voice changer but they thought it would look weird with this killer sitting at a computer with the costume on. 🔪👀
The house used during the climax, where most of the killing takes place, is the same house used as a school in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998).
According to the commentary by director Wes Craven, Angelina Tyler was supposed to be the second killer, as Roman Bridger's girlfriend and ex-classmate of Sidney from Scream, but the producers didn't like the idea & scrapped it.
Ghostface Calls Sidney at the Police Station 📞🔪 [Clip]
Sidney takes out an FIE Titan from a drawer in Detective Wallace's office, but later takes out a Beretta 950 Jetfire from her ankle and tosses it into the pool.

If you paid close attention, you’d quickly realize it was a different gun just by the color & look of the gun. 🔪
In one of the three endings Wes Craven shot, Tyson gets stabbed as he tries to defend himself from Ghostface but he does survive. 🔪

Unfortunately- He didn’t make the final CUT! 🩸
A big twist was planned for the killings to be caused by insane fans of the "Stab" movies. The twist would come where Sidney visited a house where all the teenagers had been killed, only for the bodies to get up and reveal themselves as the killers.
In one scene where Dewey is pulling down the books from the book case one hits Gale in the face. This was actually not in the script and Courteney Cox gave a really dirty look. She told Wes Craven to leave it in the final cut, even though he said she was "out of character". 🤷🏻‍♂️🔪
This is the only Scream movie where Sidney (Neve Campbell) doesn't know nor meet the killer personally. 🔪
This is a representation of director Wes Craven's frustration with people who use horror films as scapegoats for murder motives, as the franchise has been plagued with people who blame violence in movies for violence in real life.

Such a badass scene. 🔪🩸
Because of the Columbine massacre, the producers were pressured into toning down the film's violence. (At one point, the studio attempted to demand for no blood to be seen in the film at all). As such, the film is a bit more satirical & more comedic than the last 2. 🔪
Roman Bridger is the only character not to be seen killed on-screen. This is to trick the audience, as it is later revealed that he is the killer. 🔪
Kincaid was included in the climax at the producers' insistence after they realized he disappeared before the third act, and his arc went nowhere otherwise. 🤷🏻‍♂️🔪
In Scream, Tatum argues that a woman could be the killer, referencing Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct (1992). The guys reply that an ice pick is not the same thing. At the end of this film, Sidney stabs the killer with an ice pick. 🔪🩸
ALSO- Just some fun info about the tweet above.

While filming this scene, Neve actually missed the pad where she was supposed to stab & actually stabbed Scott.

His reaction/scream is actually genuine. 🔪😱
Roman is the first Ghost-Face killer to die in his costume. 🔪🩸
Scream 3 actually does have an alternate ending, technically.

They filmed the original ending, but felt that it was missing a lot.

So, when they did reshoots- they added more violence, more action, etc. 🔪

Here’s the link to watch the full video:

Wes Craven filmed three different endings and didn't tell the cast which one he was going to use.

This was mainly because of what happened during Scream 2 when the script leaked & they had to do rewrites. 🔪
Scream 3 End Credits [Trio/Opening Kill] 🔪🩸
Did you know Scream 3 had an different opening kill... 🔪

Sadly, this was also scrapped, but I personally wouldn’t have minded seeing how this played out.
At the end of the movie, Mark Kincaid is 4th surviving character behind Sydney, Dewey and Gale and is wearing his left arm in a sling.

In Scream 4, Judy Hicks is the 4th surviving character behind Sydney, Dewey and Gale and has her right arm in a sling.

[Sorry it’s blurry]
The film never had a public test screening. The cast and crew only had their first chance to see the finished product at the premiere because of fears of spoilers being put out on the Internet.
Here’s a @etnow flashback on when Scream 3 finally wrapped on filming. 🔪

I personally LOVE this video only because of what Neve Campbell says.

Now look at us, getting pumped & excited for #SCREAM5 & #SCREAM6 is already green lighted! 🩸
Miramax was so concerned about protecting the movie's plot secrets that no journalists were allowed to see the finished film until two days before it opened.
David Arquette and Courteney Cox met on the set of Scream, dated while shooting Scream 2, & married a month before principal photography of this movie began. They cut short their honeymoon in order to film it.

Cox added "Arquette" to her name, as seen in the credits. 😱🖤🔪
In a 2009 interview, Matthew Lillard claimed that he had been contracted to reprise his role as the primary antagonist, having survived his apparent death in Scream (1996), orchestrating new Ghostface attacks from prison on high school students and ultimately targeting Sidney.
It took $34.7 million in its opening weekend, the most any film had ever earned during the January to April period at the time, and the most Miramax had ever earned for any debuting film.
