People that say things like "Well yeah but if I did the right thing I'd be arrested/lose my job!" are demonstrating that they fear the state/oligarchs more than they fear God.
It's a matter of faith, really. The Islamic suicide bomber doesn't say "Well yeah but id I do that, I'll be blown to bits!" because he doesn't fear consequences in this world if he believes his actions are in the service of his god and that his reward is in the next world.
Western Christians find ways to justify serving multiple masters because they can taste, touch, and feel the rewards given to them by their earthly masters and despite what they say, their actions demonstrate they don't have faith in the substance of the rewards promised by God.
If Christ had lived his life like this he would have kept his mouth shut to avoid the cross. He could justify it the same way modern Christians do, say he was being "pragmatic" so he could live to fight another day.
