I'm listening to an episode of NPR's Code Switch, and apparently, 60% of black voters in South Carolina were influenced by Jim Clyburn's endorsement. . .

As in. . . they voted for Biden, in the primary, and a strong factor in that was Clyburn's endorsement. . .

I just. . .
Don't ever fucking scold me about voting when #yall let someone else tell you who to vote for.
Also, in this episode, they mention that the disconnect btwn older voters and younger voters is that younger voters are more interested in policy and older voters see the race for POTUS as a popularity contest. . . which is what leads to them voting for ppl they think "can win."
That makes a lot of sense (w/r/t explaining how they voted), but by that logic. . . the argument that "voting matters" rings hollow as fuck when people are just voting for most popular.

That's a joke.
Also, FUCK Jim Clyburn.

He basically said the Crime Bill was "history" and we should look at what's being done now, then proceeded to talk about how it was the gov that attacked CRM activists. . .

while ignoring that we're experiencing the SAME thing, for YEARS! Before Trump!
Anyway. . . no, I don't think older black voters are more wise or pragmatic.

I also don't think there's much they could have done with voting, anyway.

I am just aggravated by the patronizing and condescension that came with the short-sighted support of Joe Biden.
Oooooh. . . this episode makes a great point.

Racial profiling = a problem for bougie black people
Mass incarceration = a problem for poor black people

This explains why bougie blacks still want the police. They're not the ones scared about going to jail.
In a lot of cases, it's bougie black people who are the ones sending poor black people to jail.

Shwow wow wow.
It's so funny because a bunch of bougie black people have tried to make the argument defunding the police.

Whole time, they're NOT the ones from the hood. They're NOT the ones being put in jail. They ARE some of the ones putting poor black people in jail.
"Insiders, like Kamala Harris, they get a seat at the table. And, like her mom said, they know which forks to use. But, that also means that they're rarely the ones interested in flipping that table over." - Gene Demby, Code Switch
