/ To focus on positive. I got my mom-who always votes Repub/Libert-to vote for Biden. What was most effective? Empathy. Acknowledging her fears about the Dem Party and not dismissing them. Then focusing on all the Rs denouncing Trump- https://twitter.com/GovBillWeld/status/1317886936732913664">https://twitter.com/GovBillWe...
/ Asking if she could name another candidate ever where so many from same party spoke out agnst? And asking what that says about whether he reflects her values.
Showing her @RVAT2020 @RepsForBiden @43Biden. The letter from Repub Nat& #39;l Sec officials denouncing him. Cindy McCain
/ Articles from pro-lifers like Mona Charen. Articles from evangelicals supporting Biden (she is Quaker but worried about religion being excluded from public square). Acknowledging her fears abt cancel culture/free speech. I didn& #39;t try to convince her Biden was perfect but did
/ emphasize that he had beaten Sanders and Warren and that he wasn& #39;t the harbinger of socialism. Reminded her we needed to reclaim internat& #39;l trust, beat pandemic so she can see my daughter again, stop egging on internal terrorists and then we can have real conversations
/ about taxes, regulations, role of religion, protecting free speech. Telling her "R& #39;s do that too" when she brought up censorship or religious tests or a Biden malapropism didn& #39;t help. Telling her "not to worry about X" wasn& #39;t helpful either ...
/ It was acknowledging her concerns and giving her permission to see that voting for Biden didn& #39;t mean going against 77 years of her identify by emphasizing she was not alone and that there were lots of other Rs/Libs struggling with same Qs and it was okay to vote for Biden. End
