Fiction submission guidelines be like “we are OK with sex but it must fit the story, it can be erotic but not titillating, sexy but not pornographic.” What does this even MEAN. You want Fancy Sex? No dirty parts? The notion but not the body parts? Hot but doesn’t turn readers on?
Guidelines like these are the worst. Why even bother submitting when a mag gatekeeps Acceptable Sex? I hate opinions on twitter but I hate this even more. Sex is feelings and character but it is also bodies and gross and weird and titillating. Can y’all stop pretending it’s not?
And y’all know who self-rejects from this first lmao. People with marginalized bodies and desires.
