Finished. Both seasons are a 10/10. I'll have my thoughts on it later today. https://twitter.com/inspirashamul/status/1291101722811805697

Sangatsu didn't move it's place in my favorite anime, but Kiriyama is now 5th followed by like set of characters that start with O lol.

I was hooked all the way from the first episode with the lack of dialogue coming from Kiriyama. And his first spoken line was "That's a lie". The complex relationship he has with Shogi and the incredibly nuanced characters around him is beautiful.

I will try to start learning Shogi now that I finished the anime, but in no way was I disconnected from the emotions and the struggles both in and out of the matches because of how well the dialogue and visuals bridged through my lack of knowledge of the sport.

Will I read the manga or LN? No, probably not anytime in the next few years. Shaft has definitely nailed it, but I wonder how much the extra chapter which I used for the visuals of this thread would hit since the dialogue of Kouda's mother hit.

I don't think I've cried this much for a series because most of S2, any small moment would get me so emotional. I could empathize with each of their situations and issues (except fuck Megumi, I don't want to forgive you). A rewatch is needed once I have some shogi info
