A philosophical thread on $TSLA and $TSLAQ
/ This is a society of enablement. This is not to say society is a uniform entity or that there are no obstacles for individuals, but only to highlight that the majority of people can find or struggle successfully towards fulfilment.
/ This is true especially in the West. Our long-term improvement in general quality of life and democratic participation has dulled our already weak perception of the counterfactual: it not only isolated endeavours that can end in tatters, but our all-encompassing journey.
/ A dullness of the kind has been facilitated by the unilateral power of the State, the higher secular power ensuring, in principle, that no resource or action will come at a cost of the general Good. Our trust in the State has withered, but our expectations have grown.
/ We trust the food in our plates, barely doubting its quality. We trust our children’s educators. We trust our utility institutions. We trust our car manufacturers. Our occasional mistrust is isolated and superficial, since most of us use their services regardless.
/ This improvement in our institutions has created an ingrained trust in the system that is implicit even in the #Antifa circles: the system mostly works, so it should work for me most of the time. An operational system is the baseline, while the exception is barely considered.
/ Enter corporate fraud. There have been the cases of #Theranos, Enron, $LK etc, high-profile cases attracting attention on the investor losses but the eventual resolution of the issue. The monster was slain, society is purged and pure, ready for greater times.
/ What happens while the system does not work? What happens when the fraud is prolonged, encompassing an increasing number of social aspects beyond mere investment returns? What happens when your innocent purchase ends up being a blind spot to your otherwise heavenly fantasy?
/ $TSLA has developed in the arch-monster of our days. It has been a tremendous success with investors. It has popularised a technology that would need decades to gain similar attention. It has been the vehicle for indirectly pursuing dreams bold in anyone’s imagination.
/ It has attracted the dreamers, the do-gooders, anyone who wants to believe in their heart of hearts that they are virtuous and a net positive for our fragile world. It encouraged the previously marginal idea that one’s consumption of luxury can help save the world.
/ This is an alluring premise. The young, and the rich, and the gullible have been attracted to the company like butterflies to the flame. How many companies can package virtue, swift riches, signalling of relevance and sexual prowess in one simple brand?
/ Who can blame these cerebrally unborn Sapiens for trying to maximise their potential for mating and inclusion by subscribing to the dream of a single overarching solution and its one and true prophet? We are but social beasts and the allure is tempting, even for adversaries.
/ $TSLA ‘s first and second acts have dragged for far too long. Its potentially deadly products have penetrated most neighbourhoods. Thought leaders and influencers has subscribed to the dream. @joerogan “loves his Tesla”, ignoring its sleeping potential as a suicide aid.
/ Every person following $TSLAQ asks versions of this question: how many should be impoverished or sacrificed before the state we have so trusted, even in our dissent, acts and restores the normality of modest deception? Their cries seem incredulous and driven by greed.
/ What sacrifice does the SEC and officials all over the world require before one sees the monster’s true colours? $TSLAQ cannot slay the monster, gallant efforts by journalists, whistle-blowers and inspiring analysts have proven as much. Where is the hero?
/ If we seek the hero in the State, we may encounter a vile truth: the hero’s ship has been taken over by self-serving captains, who slay and feed monsters as they see fit for their personal benefit. Millionaires with gavels cannot care less for the statistics of $TSLA victims.
/ Do not wait for the State to end the saga. The end will come either brilliantly by the death of a high-profile customer or surprisingly by the prophet rubbing the wrong autocrat the wrong way. Save your words or use them for your benefit, but better seek other monsters.
