Norms exist in absence. Without immediate sanction for his actions, and I don’t mean hand-wringing in op-eds, there was nothing to stop him and he fucking knew it.

Gentlemen’s agreements, handshakes, suggestions, guidelines. He took a goddamn monkey wrench to the works because he knew it was nothing but smoke. Maybe we should learn a lesson from that.

Oh, and you know that if Biden steps out of line an inch, he will be torrentially hammered with the crap that never came to bear on Trump. That’s charismatic power. Stomps the bureaucracy every time.

By the by, if Biden gets in, set your clock not only by the shrieking demand to return to norms from the right. Just as they will gibberingly point at the deficit and cry about how this imagined thing is killing America. A bill they themselves ran up.
