Something that rubs me the wrong way about a lot of note-taking gurus online is an overemphasis on shared writing as the output. What about making effective decisions more quickly?
I also don’t like when they talk about a rigid note-taking system that works for themselves as though it’s a system that will work for everyone. Everybody has their own goals and needs. https://twitter.com/roberthaisfield/status/1296548088941654016
Sure, there are some workflows that are common that can be optimized, but those are mechanical, like flowing from PDF to PKM system. For the most part, people need to ask themselves tough questions about what they want and how they’ll get it.
I’m very aware of how idiosyncratic my notes and needs are. When I show off workflows, I’m describing what works for me. It’s mostly to provide inspiration. I expect people to read between the lines and decide for themselves how those workflows do or don’t fit into their lives.
On decision-making: I suppose ultimately when I’m working in a team I’ll often reformulate my decision into a readable document so I suppose that’s shared writing, but that’s coming after I’ve done all of the messy writing to come up with the decision, which is exclusively for me
