oh also to everyone i know who knows how to sew even literally just a straight stitch, let me introduce you to: the perfect blanket. sized for two adult humans sitting on a couch together with laps and legs covered or one adult with blanket covering most of your body.
pick two flannel fabrics, purchase three yards of each. wash your fabric. trim the selvedge/weird edges of each fabric. place fabric right sides together and sew all four sides, leaving about... idk, 6 inches or sew unsewn so you can turn the blanket right side out.
use any pointy thing to get your corners nice and crisp. pin the last six inches closed with the raw edges tucked in, give them a quick sew super close to the edge. then go around the whole damn thing one more time, this time stitching around 1” from the edge.
sometimes you forget what seam allowance you were using for your top stitching and it doesn’t even matter because it’s a cozy blanket who the fuck is inspecting top stitching.
these also make excellent gifts, ngl. we are giving two of these this year (our nephew and jessi’s mom). you can also use two yards of each flannel for an individual adult blanket or 1.5 yards of each for a kiddo. you can even embroider a lil “tag” or love note on the edge.
