All these people slagging off fanfic recently has got me thinking. I find fan fic so much more engaging and easy to read than regular fiction. I have a condition called Aphantasia (which basically means I can’t visualise, my ‘minds eye’ is blind) when I’m reading ‘normal books’
I struggle with a lot of the details because I can’t picture them. So for example when you watch a film and you all think ‘wait he doesn’t look like the character description’ I’m thinking ‘ah that’s what he looks like!’ For me what fic does is it takes out that element,
I know what the characters look like and I know their personalities so I get to actually just enjoy the story. So yeah for me as someone who loves to read but struggles with it the work fic writers are doing is awesome and i really appreciate it!
So there’s my alternate totally not asked for take on fic for anyone who wants to comment about the value of it compared to traditional books because I for one am immensely grateful for it!
