So, now I’ve eventually calmed down, a reflections 🧵 on the gaffer:

I’ve been called a Gerrard fanboy...accurately. But there’s a few reasons for it:
1. We massively underestimated the size of the job he took on. We were so fed up of the disasters that we just wanted it fixed, NOW. It was unrealistic. We wanted him to build a winning team on a budget of half of the team we were chasing. Was never going to happen.
2. We weren’t prepared to allow him to make mistakes and learn from them. Or, if we were, we wanted them fixed immediately. It has taken time to put together a side/squad capable of competing. Each window we have got closer. We might not be there yet but progress is undeniable.
3. He has, through the European success, helped keep us financially able to compete at a reasonable level. That success is underrated because we understandably want trophies but truthfully it has been far more important to our long-term health than, say, a cup win.
4. He said himself it could take 4 years to get us fully back to where we should be. Personally I believe he was right but we’re very much on the road there.
I think success is coming. There will be bad results and people will lose their shit (me included) but he and his team are beginning to look like the kind of side who delivers. I dare say the first draw will see this thread chucked back at me but in time I expect silverware.
So aye, I’m a fan. Not because he’s cool or a bog name, but because I think he is going to engender the biggest turnaround of our club since Souness with a much smaller comparative budget.

WATP ♥️
