I’m adding to the US-UK food discourse. There’s no turning back now.
Where my wife lived in rural IL I had to struggle to find bread that wasn’t totally full of sugar. The food section of the local Walmart, a store bigger than my entire village, was smaller than a local Sainsbury’s.
The pizza from a local mom and pop place was possible one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve been to Italy a lot

The McDonald’s is worse there
Gas station tendies are better than anything offered at a uk service station
The deli selections are great for sandwiches but there are no standalone cheeses. You know what I mean.
The biscuits are lovely and something that is genuinely missing from the UK. Not it is not quite a savoury scone.
The raw meat is unfortunately not as good, largely universally. There didn’t seem to be any specific butchers either, although I could be wrong.
