I see so many people who still try to “cancel” Conan Gray. In this thread I’m going to show you everything that has been going on, and an explanation of the context/apologies. And also the things that are unmentioned by Conan himself. I’m not -

- particularly trying to excuse what conan has done. But I’m trying to clarify what’s going on and why I think he shouldn’t be canceled. I will give trigger warnings when needed. I hope you can take the time to read this thread.

Before I start off I want to mention that Conan didn’t have the best childhood. He grew up poor & in the wrong circumstances . And most of these things were very traumatizing for him. (he said these things in old youtube videos, interviews etc.)

1. the ikapies situation
- the ikapies is a groupchat who made a video of the lyrics to conan’s song “i know a place” to ask if he wanted to play the song on tour. later on tour he (in my opinion) jokingly started saying that he would get killed if he didn’t -

- play the song. But in the end nobody except for the people in the gc knows what actually has been said. And from what I know there aren’t screenshots about that they didn’t send the threaths even when it probably was jokingly. I’ll put a clip of the situation down here

2. hawaii/so known “racist situation

down here I’ll add the tweets that we’re talking about. When Conan tweeted these things he was 15 years old.

As we all may know, Conan was very ignorant and uneducated as a child. The things he said were absolutely not okay. there is another video of conan that i’ll add down here. he was really young here too.

Conan apologized in this tweet that I’ll add down here. As he says himself. He educated himself and knows better know. The things that were so known “okay to say” 6 years ago are different than they’re now. The things he said weren’t okay, but he seems genuinely sorry.

3. the lesbian situation
in 2018 Conan tweeted saying that “he was a lesbian” (tweet down below), i as a lesbian don’t particularly think that was hurtful, but that is my opinion. He apologized for these tweets (down below) Calling Conan “homophobic” -

- / “lesbophobic” isn’t okay. Conan has shown his support for the lgbtq+ community for years in his videos and on social media. This tweet may could’ve been hurtful towards some people but him tweeting that one dumb thing doesn’t make him homophobic/lesbophobic

4. rape jokes
Younger Conan has made some jokes that are not okay. These jokes include rape jokes. I will include the rape joke down here.

He also tweeted a rape joke that i will add down below. As i said he was an uneducated ignorant child. He apologized for these ignorant, uneducated and disgusting jokes/ tweets in general in a reply to a tweet. (down below)

5. two genders situation
Conan tweeted these things to mock people who thought there were 2 genders. at the time of these tweets people did that a lot. so this was mostly taken out of context. Conan supports non-binary/trans lives and has supported this on his -

- youtube channel for a long time. As a non-binary person I think that he actually was mocking these people, but again thats my opinion. His apology is genuine in my opinion. But i totally get that it could be taken out of context.

6. ableist situation
There was this person on twt that met conan at a m&g and they claimed that Conan was ableist towards them at the m&g. there’s no actual proof of it happening but as a nd person i do wish Conan would adress this (persons tweet down here) -

again there is no actual proof and i don’t think he actually wanted to be “ableist” towards this person. but it still isn’t okay. This doesnt mean that conan is a bad person towards his fans, I’ll add a clip of him meeting a fan down here.

7. Conan’s weird sense of humor
first of all there was this tweet that people got mad about (down below) but what people dont know is that gus was one of conans friends, idk if they were actually good friends but ill add them interacting down here

secondly there was this reply underneath a fans comment that conan answered. People may don’t understand this but this is a typical Conan joke. he makes those kind of weird jokes towards us all the time, and i personally think theyre funny. (below)

In the end there are a couple things I wish he’d still apologize for / talk about. But I believe he genuinely grew, and isn’t his ignorant problematic 15 year old self anymore. He educated himself on the wrong things he said. And I don’t think he should be “cancelled” -

- for his ignorant and problematic childhood. Especially when he apologized and showed his growth. I think we should hold him accountable not cancel. Forgive/give another chance not forget. Conan isn’t a perfect human being -

- he made mistake just like all of us. He grew up as a better person. It’s your choice if you like him or not. But sending hate and not moving on from this isn’t necessary. I hope you all understand the situation a bit more now.
