Me in elementary school (mid-90's): Canada is the most peaceful country in the world with no violence in its history!

Me after high school: Canada violated some treaties with the First Nations hundreds of years ago, but is making up for it now! Haida Gwaii! Nisga'a Agreement! 1/ https://twitter.com/KimSenklip/status/1317718292748857344
Me in university: Holy shit they did WHAT at Residential Schools? 1996!?!

Me in my late 20's: Man, Canada just keeps signing new treaties, then breaking them. Pipelines, fresh water, dams, shouldn't we respect land rights?? Still, "Genocide"...that's a little too far, no? 2/
Early 30's: Starlight Tours was just straight up murder. Plus Canada definitely commits "cultural" genocide.

Meanwhile some fellow yuppies at a downtown Vancouver dog park are openly making fun of "drunken natives" in the neighborhood while I shake my head and leave. 3/
Mid 30's (present): Yeah there's nothing purely cultural about this. We kill indigenous people in hospitals and deny them protection from white supremacist mobs intent on doing them harm.

What now? Does Canada need its own Orange Despot before we make some real changes?
