There's a good piece in the FT this weekend with this cracking para https://on.ft.com/348OQkJ
Students did their job. For which they have been demonised and locked up with appallingly poor levels of self - isolation support. They're now being demonised in every major uni town and city, until the hospitals are overwhelmed...
... when we'll be begging healthcare students to work for free. Actually no I'm wrong - we'll be begging healthcare students to continue to pay to save the lives of those that demonise them.
We've given them nothing to do all week and nowhere to do it, and made it very clear that if they back out now there are severe life and finance penalties.
But when they - pretty politely so far - dare to suggest that perhaps what they're paying for this "experience" ought not to be full price, we gaslight them by showing them overworked lecturers and remind them to be "partners" not "consumers".
Because, you know, they need to do their job. Sign up less income all their life, wreck their mental health and sit on Zoom all week in a box room. Anything else means they're a shirker. Oh and they're killing granny. It's them. It's their fault.
Student: My course this year is bad VFM
Uni: Think of the wider life outcomes
Student: But look at that recession
Uni: But our costs are higher
Student: You're right. Sorry Sir.
