I think about this often
Mostly because the Senate...
For anyone upset about this/with the way our system is woefully unresponsive to the people, I have a post coming soon about expanding the house! Tl;dr helps fix the EC, make gerrymandering harder, and can be done without amending the constitution!
@sonicsea33 sent this along: Carbon footprint/household for the two areas. ❤️Density❤️
Also just want to note that Madison called the equality of each state in the “lesser evil” of fully equal rep by state (like under the Articles of Confederation) and that “too much stress was laid on the rank of States” and called it “unjust” https://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/debates_629.asp
Madison explicitly warned against the idea that the Senate might “obstruct the interests of the majority” and argued that the senate would counteract the majority in areas where the 2nd exercises and the 1st does not
Representatives from the small states (Johnson, Ellsworth, and Sherman) themselves called the idea “unjust” leading Hamilton to denounce the proposal as “a contest for power, not for liberty”
This is all just to say that if you want to defend the Senate, you should realize that neither the Federalist papers nor the Founding Fathers you’ve heard of thought this was a good idea
