A 300 word #blaseball microfic about Beck Whitney taking Jasmine Washington to the Boston Garden during the off-season, and wondering why Caligula Lotus is nowhere to be found during Season 10, Game X. 0/6
The soil squelched under Jasmine’s flipflops, dry soil tickling the sides of their feet as it lapped up droplets of water from their membrane. Beck was smiling, not the small, polite smile that Jas was used to seeing after games, but a big wide grin. “And this is the garden!” 1/6
“Wow,” Jas replied, happy to see their friend genuinely enjoying herself for once. “You tend this all yourself?”
Beck shook her head, “The Groundskeeper has been doing most of the work since I moved. Ace too, but don’t tell him I know, he sneaks in to work at night.” 2/6

Jasmine stifled a laugh, “The old guy in the crop top? He gardens?”
“He does a lot of things! He’s a lot sweeter than he pretends to be. I can introduce you sometime, I think you’d get along. Speaking of! I said I’d introduce you to Cali! Cali?” Beck called cheerily. 3/6

The night air was silent. “Cali?” Beck called again, her tone shifting to something more worried as she looked to a bushel of Bleeding Hearts for a response. The plant stayed inert, as though it were entirely mundane. “...Cali? ...Fern? Are either of you here?” 4/6
The plants were still, and the frog was nowhere to be seen. “That’s weird,” Beck said, giving Jasmine a feigned smile as if to say that everything was okay. “Maybe they’re deeper in,let’s check the greenhouse.” Jas nodded in agreement just as both their phones pinged. 5/6
Beck was busy searching the bushes for any sign of Cali, when Jasmine spoke up. “Beck? You’re gonna want to check that message.”
Beck’s breath stilled as the screen displayed The Peanut in the Baltimore sky, gloating and taunting - and Caligula Lotus stepping up to bat. 6/6.
