uh oh circus

Oswald is the circus? The circus is an extension of oswald. Maybe. I don’t know anything. The ability of the circus that we get to see in the crying children is [pluto] “Creating illusions from one’s distorted desires, is it… I can see that this place amplifies people’s desires

to the maximum.” but this doesn’t explain the ability to distort people into members of the circus troupe. [philip upon seeing the members of the circus]“Ugh… These are… ...Oh, What the…! These… These are all... people…” which is to show that all of the members of the circus

were originally people (since at this point emma and noah have been the only ones directly shown to have been people ?) but it could already be interpreted due to things such as the elephant having a human arm for a trunk. Okay anyway. Philip saying these are all people. How did

he know? Most of the circus troupe don’t appear human at all. Mr knife looks like a doll and ms mermaid looks like a huge anglerfish with duck legs. How did philip know /!??!?!?. Also ms mermaid confuses me so much. She was not a person. [oswald] “Ms. Mermaid joined us because

she was sooo scared of the sea. She’s very glad to be on land now!”this is the first time oswald mentions ms mermaid, hes talking to noah about all of the various members of the circus (noah is skeptical)and oswald mentions a mermaid again later when emma has said he just wanted

to watch the circus show, not join it. “Everyone couldn’t understand my words and actions and left me, one by one. The only ones who stayed by me ‘til the end were my secret pals! The mermaid who snacks on jelly beans inside seashells… The hamster who’s so tall, he can drink

clouds off the sky. My earnest efforts to bring people merry smiles were adored by Ms. Sun, who then whispered to me that she will make my wish come true. It was the outrageous, head-blowing wish to frolic with my secret pals!” which means that ms mermaid existed before oswald

was a clown. She and the hamster who drinks clouds were oswald’s imaginary friends that he conjured to cope with his loneliness. To grant oswald’s wish to frolic with his friends (and to be happy/make others happy), Ms sun brought them into a physical existence and turned oswald

into a clown. I do not understanddd i really do not. Ms mermaid is a physical entity capable of movement and communication and yet..she was not a person? She was from oswald’s brain. This also applies to the hamster but we don’t get to see/hear of it more so i won’t be focusing

on it. Oswald says that ms mermaid joined the circus because she was afraid of the sea but when would she have been in the sea? She is one of his secret pals (imaginary friends) from before the circus existed. Nothing makes sense<3 okay anyway. When a person joins the

circus troupe, how does that process even work? It doesn’t seem uniform at all because we weren’t shown any illusions of torment for emma and noah. They simply went to sleep and woke up. [oswald] “We’ll be friends with each other when you open your eyes! Now then, lets-”

(black screen) “Ah, so you're finally awake! You were asleep for so long, I was almost starting to worry if i'd have to place a well-cooked drumstick on your nose!” clown anesthesia????clown surgery???? There were no illusions and no struggle. There was no torture. We only see

that side with philip. Why is it different here? Is it because noah asked to join the circus? And philip didn’t. Oswald’s reaction to both of them is the same though, that he wants to help them. (Help them get over their sadness and be happy) [oswald to noah] “You can’t join us

if you’re hanging out with those meanie tears, y’know? I’ll help you say goodbye to those mean friends flowing down your cheek.” [oswald to philip] “You can’t laugh to your heart’s content until you’ve swallowed the fragrant pus of sadness whole, you know? That’s where I would

like to help you!” i think its odd that he says y’know to noah and you know to philip but ill assume the inconsistency is a translation error. The way that oswald treated emma and noah VS the way he treated philip was different, because the way that emma and noah treated oswald

was different from how philip did (if this makes any sense. I am so sorry) what i mean is that emma and noah were relatively polite to oswald. (emma was actually completely polite but noah was a bit rude) however noah’s rudeness to oswald never went any further than small insults

He didn’t make any attempts to hurt oswald in a serious way mentally or physically.Emma is completely polite to oswald. I think its entirely possible that emma was the first person to not immediately insult or try to harm oswald. Fixer offices(like wedge office and moses’ office)

are constantly being given orders to investigate the circus but more often than not that translates to go attack the circus (what wedge office did) and in that case, oswald attempted to ‘pop the flowers’ of wedge office, but couldn’t. He wants to know why it didn’t work, which

is why he wants their books. We don’t get to know any more details on if wedge office was shown any illusions and i really would like to know. Also moses was there. Circus in the distortion detective NOW. actually nvm vespa would kill the circus troupe so fast he has problems.

Vespa would be able to kill oswald because hes fast. I think ezra would be too slow to get a hit on him esp bc her weapons can be heavy. Also moses hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii . ok anyway. Emma and noah are treated well by oswald. Noah asks to join the circus. They simply fall asleep and

wake up with altered bodies and their corporate drone titles replaced with circus trouper. Philip enters the circus, insults oswald, blames oswald for the deaths of dawn office, tries to kill oswald, is put through mental torture by the illusions of his deceased coworkers

conjured by the circus. Philip doesn’t become a circus trouper because the one who triggers philip’s distortion is pluto. It passes the line of distortion and philip becomes an abnormality (the crying children)
Oswald sees the crying children and comments on how expressive and

fantastic the faces of the children are (he thinks they would be great for a circus act) and calls pluto a splendid looking jester. This part is genuinely so funny to me oswald is just like oh this is fantastic! So many wonderful new friends for my circus! But pluto is like

[sends philip away] and then is like “And Oswald, I invite you to a far grander stage where we can hold the greatest show you could imagine” and now oswald is in the ensemble alongside ms mermaid and mr knife. Where are the rest of them though? Mrs ant, ms hexagonal cone hat,

and the dancing figures + skirt/leg things?
Okay going back to the circus members .. ms hippo and mr ball were killed by wedge office, but we see another large figure fighting with wedge office that looks like its the same texture/material as mr elephant and mr lion, but its in

the shape of a large muscular human with a hunched over figure and thick arms like tomerry. What determines the shape a circus trouper will take after they distort? Distortions should be widely varied and usually based in the strong emotion that the person is experiencing, but

for the circus i dont understand why people would become the forms that we see. What desire did you have that turned you into a hippo or a ball or a hat. Hello. Philip distorting into the crying children makes sense because he wants to cry, and he wants attention and validation,

and to be loved. Emma and noah becoming clowns kind of makes sense because they want to be happy…? But there also isnt a huge reason for them to become clowns other than oswald wanting more clowns for his circus so i dont know. We’ve established you distort based on your desires

but again .. hippo ?! ball? HEXAGONAL CONE HAT? I understand fully that im reading way to far into this and that the circus is meant to be nonsensical but i have a problem where i want to understand everything and i want everything to make sense. Why do some of them become

animals that appear to be made out of meat and have human hands? While others are animals made out of regular animal materials but might have something like 2 heads. Mr knife looks like a doll but he is capable of communication. He listens to oswalds instructions and performs.

Why do emma and noah appear so human?I used to not even think they were distorted at all because they look completely human aside from emma’s hands. One of emma’s hands is a lion paw and one is a bunch of knives.The knives look the same as mr. knife’s hands but mr. lion has human

hands. Just how altered are emma and noah’s bodies? They’re covered by their costumes. We know that emma has noah’s legs and noah has emma’s eyes, but we never get to see under emma’s mask or see what his legs look like under his striped pants.We never get to see what noah’s body

looks like beneath his dress either, but presumably he has enough of his thighs to be able to sit on one of the wooden poles that extends from emma’s back. Why do they look so human i do not get it. Mr knife is a clown just like they are, but he looks like a plush toy and does

not retain any human parts like some of the animals do. Does emma have 4 knees. Where did noah’s feet go. Emma can’t have 4 feet. Unless he has 2 feet on each foot in which case that would be kinda fucked up. And overall, did emma get bigger and did noah get smaller? It appears

so in their art but i find it weird. In their main sprite art, noah’s head and body seem way too small. art where they are next to angela, their heads look to be the right size but noah’s body seems way too small. Why didnt they have to see any illusions!! They just went to sleep

and woke up. Does oswald only summon the illusions of someone is reluctant to join the circus? After emma said he didnt want to join, oswald tells his story of ms sun fulfilling his wish and then after hearing it, noah asks to join because he wants to be happy. Emma doesnt say

anything but after they both wake up he sounds completely calm. Emma never expresses any feelings of being upset about his blindness because he is happy to be there for noah. Im running out of brainpower help. But i do have more questions and more thoughts. i would like to know

about ms ant.the circus is on top of a massive ant nest. is the ant nest a part of the circus?the circus was originally in district 12 but is now in 10 after oswald escaped from wedge office and by extension he was able to transport the entire circus because distortion i suppose.

there are also spiders on the ceiling in a direct parallel with the ants beneath the floor. I really like oswald and the circus and emma and noah. I have a lot of ideas in my head and alternate scenarios in my mind. Specifically i think a lot about what would have happened if

emma and noah returned to the circus from the library, with the books of oscar and wedge office. By this point, philip would be in the circus tent, and i think if he saw emma and noah holding the books he would try to kill them without thinking twice since hes already shown that

he is disgusted by the circus and blames them for the deaths of dawn office. (even though it was salvador) Seeing those books would just add to his grief and rage because he would blame emma and noah (even though it was the librarians) i think philip is really unstable he needs

so much help god bless. But anyway if emma and noah were to return before the illusions of salvador and yuna had been conjured i do think philip would have reacted violently to them. And in that situation i think that emma and noah would fight back, to protect the circus and the

books that they think will improve the circus.
Another idea ive thought a lot about is if they returned after the illusions have been summoned. I find it hard to imagine emma and noah being able to just stand by as philip is in such pain. oswald has no regrets or restraint for

his actions (doesnt listen to philip telling him to get rid of the illusions) oswald justifies it because the illusions are made from philips interpretation of salvador and yuna and because oswald only cares about 1 distorting philip and 2 entertaining the audience meanwhile

i have a very hard time imagining emma and noah being able to watch what philip went though without feeling bad for him or feeling like they should stop. I think if philip had joined the circus and become happy then maybe emma and noah would feel less bad about it but they

certainly would act differently than how oswald does. If emma and noah were to return from the library and then continue living in the circus i think it could go in many different ways but i have 2 main ideas for what they would think of the flower popping/distortion.

1. theyre completely against the idea of forcing people to join the circus if they dont want to. even though emma and noah were made happy by joining the circus, it was their decision and therefore others should be able to have that choice and not be pressured or tortured.

2. they simply adopt oswald's way of thinking because after joining the circus they were freed from their worries and stresses caused by the city. (oswald was made happy by ms sun when she distorted him, now he is bringing that happiness to others) they think that other people

should accept that sometimes a true flower cannot bloom until you've faced your biggest inner abscess and squeezed all of the pus out of it. (mirroring oswald) but i do think they would struggle with it more than oswald does.

Im gonna stop now but i need to talk about rie and rimi sometime… they were the characters who were supposed to enter the circus originally but they were replaced by emma and noah (and i am SO glad they were) because the original circus story is so upsetting and scary
