#LandBack thread for settler comrades.

In the face of outright state, corporate & vigilante settler violence happening against Indigenous nations across these lands, here are some ways we can educate ourselves & networks and show up for various frontline Indigenous struggles
#AllEyesOnMikmaki

In 1700's, the Mi’kmaq signed Peace and Friendship Treaties, which included "free liberty of Hunting & Fishing as usual.” In 1999, under colonial law, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld these very treaty rights.
Court affirmed treaty rights of Mi'kmaq & Wolastoqiyik nations to hunt, fish, gather for "moderate livelihood"; moderate livelihood fisheries licenses emerged in this context. Canada has yet to implement decision & uphold Mi’kmaq nation's self-determination & self-regulation.
Sipekne’katik First Nation is first band to start own Moderate Livelihood fishery. They have 7 licenses, but only 3 are being used, totaling 150 traps - in comparison to 390,000 commercial traps in area. Settler fishers are right now openly assaulting and terrorizing Mi’kmaq ppl
In #Secwepemc territory, Secwepemc are opposing #TMX pipeline

Secwepemcul’ecw is 180,000 square km of territory. TMX weaves through 900 rivers & creeks, threatening Secwepemcetkwe (Thompson) & Fraser River. By bailing out Kinder Morgan, Canada is violating Secwepemc jurisdiction
In past few days there have been 9 arrests. Secwepemc Hereditary Chief Segwses, his daughter Miranda Dick, Loralie Dick, April Thomas, and Billie Pierre from Nlaka'pamux, and former TMX engineer Romilly Cavanaugh, and three supporters.
Tiny House Warriors, separate formation from Secwepemc Women's Sacred Fire, also continue to maintain presence on the land and in opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline. Tiny House Warriors have three upcoming court dates.

Six Nations Land Defenders have mobilized to stop Mackenzie Meadows housing development project bordering town of Caledonia. Mackenzie Meadows is one of several housing developments in the area that are directly violating sovereignty of the Haudenosaunee.
And finally, about #moosemoratorium

Algonquins of Barriere Lake and Kitigan Zibi are demanding that Quebec halt sports moose hunting in their territories. Algonquins continue to impacted by the decline of moose and are now enforcing own moratorium on sports moose hunting.
There are a number of checkpoints now set up through the territory, on junctions off Highway 117 in Quebec. Settler hunters have been shooting community signs, driving through the checkpoints, and leaving moose body parts around the camps.

Hope this brief compilation helps settler folks get informed. Indigenous lands are being desecrated; Indigenous economies are being destroyed; Indigenous resources are being extracted; Indigenous land defenders are being criminalized. This is ongoing genocide, not reconciliation
It is our responsibility to share information, show up, respond to calls to action, disrupt complacency, and refuse to participate in colonial violence.

LAND BACK NOW!
