Ahead of @Airbnb's IPO there has been lots of coverage on the apparent return of travel through the platform... which ostensibly justifies @Bchesky's decision to go public despite the recession. What has not been covered is the new type of traveler hosts are now encountering.
I'm a host w/ the platform for over a decade hosting hundreds of travelers each year. My @airbnb bookings disappeared in March and it's true there's been a slow return of travelers. But more often than before they are younger, irresponsible, & seemingly 1 step from homelessness.
Problem guests growing. Fake identities, lying re: # of guests, party houses, giving bookings to others. Journalists, investors should inquire on rise in refunds, cancellations, & host guarantee payouts. Dig into numbers. @Preetika_Rana @elaineglusac @doliver @shanmcmahon_
Emphasis for @Airbnb is catering and stoking demand (guests) while taking supply (hosts) for granted. Hosts told to just trust their verification system & given little info on guests prior to booking. Too easy for guests to lie on platform, verification is a joke. #airbnbad
