so can we finally discuss how the take “genderbends are transphobic; just make them trans” is itself transphobic. ur equating gender w sex characteristics. wanting to change a characters gender has no bearing on their genitalia and implying otherwise is. nasty
e.g., if i genderbend akechi, maybe she still has a dick. maybe she doesn’t. it doesn’t matter. however, her interactions and experience in the world will be inherently different than canon akechi. and that’s the interesting part. that’s what matters.
“just make him trans” well he still presents as and experiences the world as a man. there’s not that much bearing on the narrative. there shouldn’t be—he’s still a man. if i genderbend him, that opens entirely new narrative possibilities.
tl;dr stop equating genitalia/sex characteristics with gender. a character having a pussy will not change the narrative or their appearance and does not “eliminate the need for genderbends” at all
while there are CERTAINLY transphobic iterations of genderbends out there, the concept of genderbending is not itself transphobic and never has been.
