When I applied for the Rhodes scholarship, I was a straight A student at Harvard w highest of recommendations.
I based my application on the truth, which was that I wanted a graduate degree in lit & intended to continue being an actor.
Harvard refused to endorse my application.

The Rhodes committee asked me to act, out of the blue, in my final interview.
I stood on a chair in the middle of the room and launched into Bananas’ four corners monologue from The House of Blue Leaves.
I won the scholarship.
