Many many years back, as journalism students our assignment was to interview a celebrity. @nilasen30 & I read in the papers that Anil Kumble was in town to play the Irani Trophy. No cell phones, no internet - we went to the CCI club. At the reception, we asked to connect to his
room. The receptionist said his phone was not working. But let us sit in the lobby. We called Navjot Singh Sidhu who politely refused. I don't blame him. We sat around thinking this was a stupid idea. And then we heard Mr Kumble would have to come down to take calls as his line
was not working. We decided to wait back even though it was getting darker. And then after an hour, we saw Kumble sprinting down the staircase. He took his call and was rushing back when he was stopped by two shy students. We told him it was a college assignment & it would not
get published. He smiled & asked us to wait. He came back with two tickets for the next day's match & said we could interview him after that. We went back home in a haze. It was a dream. Thank you, Anil Kumble for not brushing us off and being so nice. Here is my photo from then
Happy Birthday, Anil Kumble. You were our first celebrity interview and the most courteous, nice celeb ever!
And with permission from @nilasen30 here is her photo. Also post interviewing him, we found Nayan Mongia and Venkat Raju. So interviewed them as well. Finally, we had one extra interview so we traded it for pineapple souffle. Our ethics were sound
