My current thoughts on Man Utd - THREAD:

The recent history of Man Utd, post Sir Alex's retirement, has been the worst the club has faced since the late 80's. For almost 25 years, we were dominant and at the top of the mountain. Then Sir Alex left and we tumbled down and down.
But in the recent words of Solskjaer:
"Mountains are there to be climbed."

Throughout history, Man Utd have been up and down and down and up. We have risen and fallen. We have had heartbreak. We have had happiness. Man Utd will rise again. The history shows us this course.
We are currently on our longest run without a trophy since pre Sir Alex. We live in times where the fanbase is larger. Sections are less patient, are frustrated at the lack of glory and the growth of this impatience is fueled because of the visibility of it with social media.
On top of this, we live in an era where our board appears to lack passion, commitment, desire, hunger and a drive to succeed. This further fuels anger and upset. The devil that has always been visible on our crest is now very much represented by our current hierarchy's attitudes.
The board must either be replaced or their attitudes & lack of communication with the fans must change. As Sir Matt Busby has said "Football is nothing without the fans." Our board must realise this, especially with the virus showing to everyone across football Busby is correct.
As a fanbase, we're entitled to different opinions and views. We are all human after all. But if you support Man Utd, if you look at the history, if you look at the type of player Solskjaer was, you know how success will return. By backing our current manager. How so? Because...
Solskjaer is in a unique position. A position that no other manager in elite club football could claim. He played under Sir Alex AND studied him. Learned from him. Won with an injury time winner in a Champions League final, with huge pressure. All for his love of this club.
He knew that one day he wanted to follow in Sir Alex's footsteps. Not just his dream, but a project and process that took over a decade. Long term planning. He eventually got what he wanted in December 2018 and it is no surprise that at times our best football has returned.
This inconsistency in the modern era has less patience, especially currently with the mental health of the world at an overall low. But the reason this exciting football has only appeared at times is because its a process. A young team. A team that had holes and inexperience.
It's a team that now has less holes. But there is still much to learn and do. The Man Utd culture behind the scenes is only just being restored after years of decay. Ole knows this and ONLY he knows how to repair the damage and fix the ship, something he is continuing to do now.
He knows how to do this long term planning from his experience of his journey to become Man Utd manager. If our board and our fanbase took the United in our name and did it, we would have won a trophy by now. I'm sure of it as this is how it was for him in Norway. Believe in Ole!
As for our squad, this is the best it has looked since probably 2007/2008. We should see huge amounts of success courtesy of Greenwood, Rashford & Martial for the next decade. No matter what happens, the amount of things they will learn from Ole will benefit them for a long time.
Our midfield is incredibly strong and with Dean Henderson, our long term future in the goal is also sorted. Our defence and our right wing is our weakness. Ole is aware of this. We know this because of his promotions or signings of young players in these positions and areas.
This season isn't over. We can still get top 3 in the league. We can still win a domestic trophy. And as a reminder, 3rd in the league happened under SAF & success would eventually follow. But its next season where I really feel IF we as a fanbase are patient, we'll be rewarded.
This is because Ole will be given money to invest in the defence and right wing. Greenwood, Rashford and Martial will have developed further, as will others. A few players will be entering or in their prime. This is still a young team right now, we will get better and improve!
Ole's investments so far have been smart. A couple of short term solutions (Cavani+Ighalo) and a few long term carefully selected players in all areas of the pitch. There can be no doubt we are a better team than when he took over, but the youthful-ness means inexperience.
Our players are under intense pressure all the time. A huge fanbase, a biased media & playing at the biggest club in the county & among the biggest in the whole world. Ole will teach them to thrive under that pressure, but he needs time, since this was lost when Sir Alex left.
Outsiders to Man Utd do not want us to be successful again, especially within the media. Less clicks for them as less negative stories to write. Combine this with a board that doesn't seem to care+the teasing of rival fans & sections of our fanbase can't take it or have patience.
Today we have a game against Newcastle. It should be an easy win. But every game we play, every game any team plays, there is a chance they could lose. Many mental health related factors are included in a match and this isn't highlighted anywhere near enough. For example:
Shaw - How will he feel about Telles's arrival?
Maguire - Greece upset.
Telles - A long trip from Brazil and in a new country, so may be anxious.
Pogba - Recovering from a virus.
Greenwood - Unnecessary media pressure/negativity and no experience of this. Still young!
All of this combined with constant negativity from the media, sections of our fanbase, our own board and a youthful inconsistency and no wonder everything isn't at its best right now. This isn't FIFA where you stick a bunch of highly rated players together and almost always win.
I personally don't blame our fanbase, I understand the frustration. But the anger shouldn't be aimed at Ole or our players. We should be behind them! I feel sorry for the fans who can't see or understand that trusting in Ole & giving him patience is the key to success eventually.
Why as a fanbase can't we try to be UNITED. Wherever you are from. However long you have supported our wonderful club. No matter your age, gender or race. If you've attended 0 matches or thousands, if we are united, if we are patient with this squad, success will follow!
It's OK to have different views. But as long as we express those views in a calm and fair way, can't we at least be united in wanting this team and this manager to succeed? Please? Is that too much to ask, especially after what we have all been through around the world this year?
Whether it's Maguire or Pogba. Lindelof or Martial. Fernandes or Fred. Or Solskjaer. Let's get behind them ALL, as they are Man Utd right now. Attacking them and being hurtful will not help. Being patient and supportive will. That is just simple human nature, not rocket science.
