My favourite festival starts today. An annual reminder that I can be every woman, all the women in my head, any woman I choose to be. #Navratri2020
Day 1: Shailaputri, Sati, Bhavani, Parvati, Hemavati. Today's colour is red.

Shailaputri: Incarnation of Kali. Mother Nature.
Sati: Shiva's first wife. Ma'am got tired of shitty men and burnt her mortal body to ash and become a goddess.
Parvati: Sati reincarnated.
Day 2: Brahmacharini
Colour: white
In her unmarried form, Sati REALLY wanted to marry Shiva. So much, that she fasted for 5000 years, only eating leaves and eventually nothing, until she got what she wanted. She represents patience, calm, toughness and hard austerity.
Day 3: Chandraghanta
Colour: red

Chandraghanta has a cresent-shaped bindhi that looks like a bell. It symbolises her third eye, which opens during war. She has 10 hands and A LOT of weapons. She is grace, bravery and courage.
Day 4: Kushmanda, creator of the universe
Colour: red
Kushmanda smiled and the light and energy of the universe was born in the form of a cosmic egg. She is believed to live in the core of the sun and governs the sun God Surya. Her lion represents justice and dharma.
Day 5: Skandamata
Colour: Grey

A fierce mum, who will unleash her wrath if you threaten her child. Her baby (Skanda) is the six-faced brother of Ganesha.
Day 6: Katyayani
Colour: Orange

The warrior goddess and a form of Lakshmi. She is scary as hell and is one of the most violent forms of Devi.
Day 7: Kalaratri
Colour: White

Kalaratri is not the one, on any day, ever. She is the destroyer of ghosts and demons and evil spirits and bestows fearlessness upon her devotees. She is scary for every intent and purpose.
Day 8: Mahagauri
Colour: Purple

Mahagauri is Parvati's most beautiful form and she provides relief from suffering.
Day 9: Siddhidhatri is worshipped on this last day of the festival.
Colour: Peacock green

It was Siddhidhatri who entrusted Brahma with the creation of worlds, Vishnu with preserving creation and Mahadev destroying the worlds when it is time. She is the remover of ignorance.
Tomorrow, day 10 is Dussehra. The conclusion of the festival and is celebrated as the day Lord Ram killed Ravana, after he kidnapped Sita. A day of light over darkness, it's also considered an auspicious day to set in motion academic goals.
Shared for a bit of understanding. Sometimes there are assumptions made before knowing what lies behind beliefs. I'm not one to be fanatic about religion but I believe in cosmic forces and have a deep sense of spirituality and faith. Hinduism loves women and it is comforting. 🕉
