1] Just remembered something....

So i personally come from a family that very rarely talks about politics

atleast not as a family.

Because of the politically volatile community we come from, whenever we do talk about politics, we do so in the confines of our small family house https://twitter.com/Laque_davis/status/1317318244840148992
2] With Dad, the last conversation we had about active participation in politics was hilarious.

Had visited home & he returned home late from the beerhall

My Dad is a comic & a storyteller.

As he jumped from one topic to another, he suddenly knelt down & offered to pray for me
3] Whilst trying so hard not to laugh...i knelt with him..

He did pray, mumbling from one issue to the other...

The part that got me, was when he said:

"i know my son will be President one day"

Although extremely flattered, i laughed so hard & dismissed his drunk rumblings.
4] Many months later, i visited home again..

This time..it was mom's turn

One of the days, i walked in on her & her friends as she said:

"If my son ever runs for a political office i will never vote for him. I will not sign my own son's death warrant. They will kill him".
5] As i awkwardly smiled, not knowing how to best respond, one of her friends, whom we call muzukuru turns and says to me:

"Forget about her Sekuru. She is mad. If noone votes for you, you're guaranteed my single vote"

We laughed it off.
My mom just wore an uncomfortable smile.
6] Whereas i dismissed Dad's rumblings, i understood my mom's fears

Strangely, whereas I've never sought their opinion on active participation in politics, they always ask for my understanding of any topical issue

Mom always calls & asks me to explain this or that political story
7] She always cautions me against government/ED/Zanu public scrutiny

her advice is:
"munosangana mu ballot box"

I also remember returning home in 2018 & her offering me a ZanuPF t-shirt which i was supposed to wear for "security reasons"

my conscience wouldn't allow me.
8] Her fears are not misplaced...

more so based on her experience in our community.
