Goddess Matangi emerged here only at Modhera, the motherland of Modh Brahmin & Modh Vanik (to which i belongs).The famous sun temple also built here.
The last Rajput king of Gujarat Karndev Vaghela was defeated by the general Afzalkhan of sultan Alaudin Khilji.

Brahmins & Baniyas (Vaniks) under the leadership of Vithaleshwar fought with Muslims bravely for about six months. Seeing their defeat by Modhs, Muslims agreed to sign a treaty.

But they cheated & again attacked the temples of modhera including the sun temple. In order to save the idol of Matangi from abduction the modh brahmins immersed the idol in Dharma-Vaav and all the peoples of our community migrated to other places.
Later, when Sayaji Rao was crowned as king. He made railway traveling easier which emoted Modhs to go to Modhera to offer prayers at Dharma Vav in which the idol was immersed. So Modhs thought of reconstruction of temple.
Finally in 1962 the reconstruction work started and on the thirteenth day of Maha 1966 it was completed. The idol was place in the temple by Shashtri Hathibhai Harishankar of Jamnagar and Shashtri Ramkrishna Harshjee of Ahmedabad.
