Open Vallejo reached out to Risner to provide him an opportunity to explain his side of the story. This is a standard step of ethical journalism. See https://openvallejo.org/about-us#ethics .
Rather than answer our questions, Risner spoke with @RichFreedmanVTH, who moments ago published this article.
Not so long ago, @vjotimesherald was a serious, honest paper that employed people like @mgafni, a generous friend and colleague, and winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize.

We remain open to comment from Risner regarding the several allegations against him.
In the meantime, here is the @MaderaSheriff arrest report he has placed at issue.

Risner was a 36-year-old lawyer when he was charged with domestic violence resulting in injury and assault with a deadly weapon. The charges were later dropped. His wife told @MaderaSheriff deputies that she received a concussion from the alleged assault. https://beta.documentcloud.org/documents/20397582-randy-risner-1996-07-05-madera-county-sheriff-arrest-report-for-alleged-domestic-violence-and-assault-with-a-deadly-weapon
Risner garnered 1.7% of the vote in the 1996 Fresno mayor's race, edging out Johnny Nelum and Michael Eagles, despite suspending his campaign earlier that year.
Risner was recently nominated to to Lawyers of Distinction, a national legal society. https://twitter.com/OpenVallejo/status/1312112424879759360
Risner was sanctioned by a federal judge in 2011 for conduct "tantamount to a fraud on the court." https://openvallejo.org/2020/01/27/vallejo-to-appoint-city-attorney-previously-sanctioned-fired/
Risner's FY 2019–2020 compensation was budgeted at $290,386.53.
