So, @sonic_hedgehog deleted a tweet and now I wanna make a thread analyzing and theorizing about it. Here we go.
First, we have our characters Sonic, Tails & Knuckles with each one possessing a word that describes their abilities: speed, flight & power, respectively.
Now obviously, this is an allusion to the three gameplay styles introduced in Sonic Heroes, which also features the same three characters in the same team.
This post may have been foreshadowed by an earlier tweet which left the number 3 in the golden ratio
However, what I REALLY want to get into are the cards themselves, as the design and symbols on them are directly influenced by the major arcana from the tarot cards (don’t worry! I won’t get into witchcrafty stuff)
Now, since we know @sonic_hedgehog to leave behind little clues in these kinds of posts, I’ll try to piece together exactly what their choice of cards may be alluding to
We’ll start with Knuckle’s card, since his is the most obvious. Besides the card number, his card closely resembles the Magician, which symbolizes creation or manifestation, to bring something into reality
For the other two, however, it’s a little tricky, since their cards lack the explicit details that Knuckle’s card has
Let’s start with Sonic’s first. Out of the whole major arcana, two share the most in common: the Lovers & Temperance (sorry for the nudes!)
Between the two of them, the card of the Lovers seem to have the most in common, as it has the mountain, the two trees, a figure in the sky and rays in the sky(albeit, facing different directions).
The reason I brought up Temperance was because the path leading up to the mountain is similar. But other than that, nothing much.
Anyways, the meaning of the Lovers card has less to do with the concept of love and more to do with the challenge of choosing a partner (UNDERSTAND! UNDERSTAND! UNDERSTAND!)
The only figures absent from this card are the man and the woman. However, if we take into account a Sonic game where the challenge is about choosing a partner, than I think we know which two figures are supposed to be occupying that space
But we’re not done yet. Finally, we come to Tails’ card. Like with Sonic’s card, I have a pretty hard time deciding who this one might represent
The only thing we have to go off of are the stars in the sky. In the deck, the two cards that closely resemble this are the Star (once again, I apologize!) and the Moon
The star represents freedom and transcendence, both of which fit into the character of Miles “Tails” Prower, who always loved flying in the open sky as well as his desire to better and prove himself worthy
The Moon, on the other hand, represents dreams. For any SEGA fan, this card alludes the the Dreamcast, the last console made by SEGA and home to 2 well-known Sonic games: Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2
Again, this one is pretty tricky to decide. For this thread, however, I will go with the Star card because a) the Moon card doesn’t offer any deeper meaning & b) the Star may offer a more accurate interpretation
With all of this in mind, let’s review our selected cards and discern their true meaning (for those wondering, yes. I know that’s the Sun card. I couldn’t find a group picture with the Star in it, so bear with it
