*Sam prays to god* dear god, please give me a sign

*leaves chapel, immediately hit with visions of his time in hell, falls to knees*

*shouts to above* what does that mean??????????

damn, #supernatural is very funny. like, I knew that. but this was a particularly nuanced bit
Follow up: this joke is early season 11, which i’d argue is the last great season of #Supernatural, where these kind of jokes felt organic and the seasonal story had a universal emotional weight to it.
just to keep using that joke above as an example: half way through the season, this joke has such a heartbreaking pay off to it, where Sam learns that it’s Lucifer who is giving him visions, not god. the following seasons never lived up to that level of layering. #Supernatural
another great bit from season 11: an angel and a demon drink beers together at a bar. they aren’t main characters at all — in fact, we’ve never seen them before this moment. but they sit there talking about the seasonal arc like 2 cogs in the #Supernatural machine, commiserating
over the fact they feel stuck in their roles as agents of heaven and hell, respectively. who hasn’t felt that level of existentialism before? season 11 really understood what to do with angels and demons for the first time since seasons 4 and 5. #Supernatural
am I writing this thread instead writing a review for last night’s season 15 episode 15? Yes, but — some of conversations from last night’s episodes reminded me of the great bits from 11. mayhaps they can pull this thing off after all 🤔 #supernatural
