The dictatorship of the proletariat is the power of the working class estabished after a socialist revolution. It must have its aim be the building of socialism.

The DTOP and socialism are not the same. The DOTP and socialism are connected though. While it’s impossible to get to socialism without a DOTP, it isn’t the same thing.

The Paris Commune was a DOTP but not socialist

The DOTP is lead by the Marxist Leninist Party

It’s called the Dictatorship of the Proletariat because it’s controlled by the proletariat and it uses its power to defeat internal and external threat

It was Marx who talked about the DOTP first

Marx and Engels fought against anarchists who called for the immediate destruction of the state. Marx and Engels correctly believed that the proletariat had to have their own state power to accomplish anything.

Anarchists try to cope with this saying it’s a strawman but it really isn’t. It’s Engels talking about the DOTP.

The revolutions of 1848 is comparable to the Arab Spring because that was when all the anti monarchist attempted revolutions went down. They were failures that made people disalusioned but this made Marx and Engels draw up plans on how the proles could seize state power.

Lenin however talked about how democratic the DOTP was

Lenin takes about the DOTP when he said the Soviets were the new form of the DOTP. Lenin has to deal with implementing the DOTP

Stalin mentions three purposes of the DOTP

1. Instrument of proletariat revolution

2. Rule of the proletariat over the bourgeoisie

3. Soviet power as a form of the DOTP
