My argument is that the goal of neuroscience is to explain complex behaviors, and that those don't respect the boundaries that we impose when studying them, like "emotion" and "cognition". 🧵
In my view we shouldn't continue in neuroscience with explanations that are more or less "linear" (A). Say, the MPFC inhibits the amygdala during extinction. We need to describe how the complex bidirectional interplay between regions gets it done (B). Much harder of course.
