Thread. Any updates or photos regarding the Cameron Peak wildfire, Colorado's largest wildfire in recorded history, will be put here.

This map is 7 hours old and likely needs updates near Masonville. The fire, with winds pushing it east, is marching towards Horsetooth Reservoir.
Clearly something had the attention of WLDLD27, a PC-12 operated by the Colorado Dept. of Public Safety, at about 5PM local time.

PC-12 is reg. N327SF (A389E7).
At 5PM local time, a slew of helicopters from the nearby firebase at Christman Field overflew the city of Fort Collins. This is one of them; N28HJ (A2CC5A) 1968 Bell 205A-1 operated by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC).

Part of the helicopter flights tonight from the Cameron Peak Wildfire. Columbia Helicopters Inc CH-47D N472CH (A5C8C2) is painted in orange light by the smoke-tinted sunset. It flew from Christman Field in NW Fort Collins to the airfield in Greeley.
Map provided by @9NEWS of the burn areas, voluntary and mandatory fire evacuations of the Cameron Peak Wildfire.

Judging by the list of evacs & the direction the smoke will blow tomorrow, it is likely the helicopter flights at around 5PM were to leave Christman Field NW of FOCO.
One of the helicopters fighting the Cameron Peak Wildfire over Fort Collins this evening. It is a Bell 205A-1 reg. N58HJ (A77447), part of the US Forest Service. The dim hues behind are smoke trails blotting out the sunset.

Oddly enough, this wasn't the first time I had photographed N58HJ. I had taken pics of it at the Grizzly Creek Fire that went thru the Glenwood Canyon earlier this summer.

I wish I could have seen it again under better circumstances. https://twitter.com/vcdgf555/status/1307133067098812416?s=20
This is what the helicopter base camp at Christman Field NW of Fort Collins looked like on a smoky sunrise atop Horsetooth Reservoir.

I had to play with some of the color filters to adapt to the smoke. This was taken almost 3 weeks ago.
The wind is roaring right now thru northern Colorado. 😬
Nothing will ever make you feel as small as watching how powerful something out of human control can be.

Cameron Peak Wildfire today, as seen from just east of Fort Collins.
It drizzled earlier and the temps are nice and cool. I think the fire got knocked down by.last night's low temps. Hop9ng for more weather like this, it's the first time northern Colorado has had a breather in ages.
It is dry again, about 70 degrees, but doesn't seem to be much wind.

Still, the air activity around the Cameron Peak Wildfire is intense currently as flames are now visible from Loveland.
How bad is it? One of the big dogs just showed up.

N612AX (A7F642) is a firefighting DC-10. I'll post pics I got later.
Columbia Helicopters Inc CH-47D N472CH (A5C8C2) had spent most of the day tackling the Cameron Peak Wildfire about a mile NW of Glen Haven/Triangle Mountain. I happened to catch it at sundown just west of Loveland, CO today as it returned to Christman Field NW of Fort Collins.
A different angle (and different lighting) of the same pass of Columbia Helicopters Inc CH-47D N472CH (A5C8C2) just west of Loveland, CO.

The smoke in the background is actually the Calwood Fire near Boulder that burned at least 26 homes and 8800 acres so far.
Spotted a firefighting S-70A with an interesting history, both recent & old, heading for Boulder, CO from Cheyenne, WY today.

This is Brown Helicopter Inc N135BH (A08DE5). It served in the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force starting in 1993. Shipped to US in 2003 on an An-124.
According to flight data history provided by @adsbexchange it arrived at McClellan Airfield near Sacramento, CA yesterday. It then led a flight from there to Nephi, Utah, then to Cheyenne, WY.

A long trip if you are only flying at 140 knots!
One of the aerial firefighting tankers sent to attack the Cameron Peak Wildfire at sunset today, loitering in circles just west of Loveland, CO as it waits to drop its payload.

This particular aircraft is Bae 146 N476NA (A5D891) of Neptune Aviation Services (their #12 aircraft).
Short video I put together of some of the aircraft in this thread to highlight some of the challenges of taking video or pics of moving aircraft. Also showing this to give some perspective of speed and distance.
The big dog I referenced earlier in this thread.

10 Tanker Air Carrier's "Tanker 910", a firefighting DC-10 reg. N612AX (A7F642), spotted near Fort Collins this evening as it doused part of the Cameron Peak Wildfire.
