I don’t have a lot of #StarTrek followers but I’m seeing something that is extremely annoying among haters of the new shows. If you think I’m wrong (as I am new to #StarTrek), feel free to chime in but of course do it nicely.

I see a lot of criticism for all of the new shows. #LowerDecks, #Picard and #StarTrekDiscovery .

BUT, I’m seeing far more criticism for #StarTrekDiscovery .

Some of you have even criticized Sonequa’s name and her hair.

And this is where I get ANGRY.

My real name is Shenikwa, so seeing Sonequa lead this show, I can’t put into words how much that means to me.

Ethnic names matter, they exist, & are not to be made fun of simply because you aren’t intelligent enough to pronounce them correctly, or under the history behind them.

I even saw another tweet where they asked why Sonequa’s hair isn’t “straight”.. this is where I saw RED.

White people CANNOT comment on Black people’s hair EVER.

And if you actually paid attention to #StarTrekDiscovery , her wearing her hair natural makes PERFECT SENSE.

So... the fact that #StarTrekDiscovery gets so much hate, more than the other shows, and most of that hate is directed toward Sonequa (not all, but most) and after reviewing the “critiques” makes me realize one thing... A LOT OF YA’LL ARE RACIST AF!!!

I cannot put into words what this show has done for me. I see myself in Michael. She’s emotional, at times she is stoic, and other times she’s loving. She’s complicated like so many of us are!

Why rob someone of the joy of enjoying #StarTrek simply because you don’t like it?

Making YouTube videos and endless tweets and bullying fans of the shows.

I don’t get it... I just don’t get it.

Shows/series can’t remain the same. They have to evolve over time.

And you picking on the show that has a Black woman with natural hair as a lead?? VERY telling!

And here is the odd part... I found out today some of the #Trekkies I follow.. follow these people.

What’s so crazy to me.. the most “famously annoying” one... spouts “you just dont like what I have to say because I’m a woman”..... then proceeds to hate on another woman... umm.. how do you NOT see the hypocrisy here?? #StarTrekDiscovery #WeAreStarfleet

In conclusion.. I love #StarTrekDiscovery , #LowerDecks and #StarTrekPicard .

And if you tweet some racist sh*t about Sonequa, or you follow someone that tweets some racist sh*t about Sonequa...You will be reported then blocked.
