Everyone has gone to bed, I& #39;m bored so welcome twitter to a critique of this fine article. https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/my-side-the-couch/202009/living-wife-borderline-personality-disorder">https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/m...
"Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder..."
The consensus statement wants us to abandon this label. Lets try to use & #39;diagnosed with& #39; if we have to.

"Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) suffer from unstable emotions and relationships"
I& #39;m not sure that unstable relationships can be the fault of any one person.

"Do you find yourself struggling to anticipate and understand your spouse’s feelings and the behaviors that follow?"
Actually, every now and then I do Daniel.

"Does your spouse often go very quickly from one emotion to another?"
Yes Daniel! Yes! Sometimes I do too though....

"Does she have difficulty accepting if she doesn’t get her way?"
She does NOT like it when she doesn& #39;t get her own way. Not like me. I& #39;m delighted when things turn out the way I didn& #39;t want.

"If so, your spouse may be suffering from symptoms of BPD"
I KNEW IT!!!!
These things could only be signs of a severe mental disorder.

Not at all. I ordered Mrs Harding from a Japanese robot company so that unlike every other human in the world, she would be predictable at all times.

"The effects of BPD are most severe in intimate relationships"
I wonder if the 1 in 10 suicide rate makes a mockery of this statement?

"They desperately seek out others to make them feel whole"
As opposed to the rest of the world that relishes its isolation. Look at how everyone has given up social contact since covid...

"Consider the following exchange between Brett and Jasmine as they lay in bed"
*waits for things to get a bit 50 shades of grey...

"Jasmine: Wake up!! Wake up!! How can you be sleeping?
Brett: Why shouldn’t I be sleeping?
Jasmine: Because I am lying here!!
Brett: We made beautiful love and then I fell asleep."
Brett should be shot for this statement which I refuse to believe has ever been said.

"This interaction illustrates how BPD can cause a married couple to go from passionately loving to alienation in a matter of minutes"
BPD causes nothing. Everything we do is a result of our thoughts, feelings, urges, beliefs, motivations, values etc. Not the label others give.

"The intensity of the intimacy felt during passion with her husband induced fears of abandonment, which prompted her to wake Brett and confront him"
Well that sounds like a huge piece of supposition. I still can& #39;t forgive Brett for using the term "beautiful love".

"exchanges above both reflect Jasmine’s insecurity in intimate relationships. They are her way of saying to Brett I am afraid that you will lose interest in me & leave."
Huge supposition, but helps that we have labelled her with bpd so can discount any of Brett& #39;s contributions

"The first step in deepening empathic ability is to become aware that there is always an emotional component, or subtext, to communication between people in intimate relationships. This allows you to actively seek it out."
Yes. Between people. This is good advice....

....but when heeding this advice, it will be hard for you to appraise the evidence fairly if you& #39;ve already diagnosed your wife with a serious mental illness of which disagreeing with you is a symptom.
"In future posts, additional tools will be described and illustrated to further increase your ability to understand the emotions of people you care about and craft responses that are both effective and loving."
Looking forward to learning how to get Mrs Harding sectioned.
