my brother is supposed to write a thing about cultural practices and how they relate to and represent cultural values, and chose observance and practices of Shabbat as related to Jewish culture - I'm trying to help explain stuff but cant remember everything & need some help
specifically the difference/overlap between culture, spirituality, and religiosity in Judaisim as opposed to western (christian) perspectives.
there was one thread in particular a while back that talked about something like how Jews are often misrepresented as religious or observant (or maybe it was nonreligious or non-observant) based strictly on their participation in synagogues or something.
it talked about these things at length in much clearer ways than I can manage but i cannot for the life of me find it for reference. does anyone remember that lol
already gone over a bit about how while not all Jews observe certain practices, their maintenance and preservation is a cultural touchstone for Jewish identity and how Jews choosing not to observe them is not a rejection of that heritage but in its spirit of rational deliberation
