TAKEAWAY:
The majority of the time, there is a for-profit transaction behind the permanent separation of a mother and her baby. The majority of the time, it benefits the adoption industry and those hoping to adopt.
100 perfect of the time, it is never in the best interest of baby or mother.
Statistics show that approximately 80 percent of mothers relinquish due to lack of financial resources and/or appropriate guidance. Yet, there are HAPs crowdfunding in order to help cover adoption fees. (Who is adoption for again?)
Fact: 100 percent of the time, it is never in the best interest of baby or mother to be separated permanently.
*Regardless of the circumstances that led to an adoption, maternal separation is trauma for a lifetime.*
Furthermore, many reunions fail because the grief is too devastating, resulting in a second separation that is equally, if not more, devastating.
Every effort to keep a mother & her baby together should be made. If a mother is permanently mentally and/or physically incapable of caring for her child, legal guardianship within the families of origin should be the next option considered.
