While social media can both be fun & useful, the majority of the work i’ve gotten in the past has been from building network via cons & applying. Studio jobs I got were from that + colleagues recommending me. NOT my online presence/follower count. Portfolio & resume is still #1.
it helps and it’s nice to have as it allows me to reach an audience & connect w/ folks. but it’s hardly been a significant factor in my hire-ability. For my own mental healths sake I separate it from influencing my work too much or associating it with my professional self worth.
some of the best concept artists i know and have had the pleasure to work with — have NO online presence. the ability to work on a team + pipeline, is as just as important as being good designer, illustrator, etc too! None of that correlates with follower count or social media.
For me, its always been focus on my work, my artwork and my craft. Keep working and learning.

social media has always been JUST FOR FUN, to connect w/ friends & folks from all levels in the industry, get early tickets to concerts,& to share insight into some aspects of my work.
I post a lot cause I like sharing my work, but i dont let my work’s purpose be only for *sharing*. social media is always an afterthought. The likes, RT’s, comments (while it is nice!) make it a point to not let it have any weight or bearing on my work & what I do with it.
