Ya gotta multiply the 2 and 4 after dealing with the parentheses. It wouldn't make sense to leave the 4 in parenthesis until after you divide the 8 and 2.

One thing also, I tend to treat the 2(2+2) as one term. That's why I simplify it all together.

But hey, I'd say the other way people are suggesting also has merit.
I surrender. Based the arguments I've received, I agree that it is 16. Once you add up the 2 and 2, you tread the equation as 8 / 2 * 2. Since Multiplication/Division are interchangeable and division occurs first, you would divide the 8 and 2, multiply by 2, and get 16.
Part of my error is that I think algebraically. That's why I jumped to simplify the 2(2+2) first, which is incorrect.
